Jehovah Rapha: God our healer

The following is a testimony of one of our beloved staff members, Brooke McClain, who serves with us in Guatemala. These excerpts are taken from bits of emails we received from her over a period of 2 ½ weeks where her health was compromised, but by the power of prayer and the power of Jesus Christ, she found herself miraculously healed.

Good afternoon. We went and saw the doctor Thursday to get the results of the CT scan read. The scan shows that I have a 6.3 mm micro adenoma on my pituitary gland. This is most likely a non-cancerous tumor and has re-occurred from the one I dealt with in 2011-2012 when we lived in Costa Rica. However, because of the rapid onset of symptoms (migraines with vomiting, blurred vision, nauseous, and dizziness, fatigue, etc.) and also because this particular growth is twice the size of the previous one, my doctor has referred me to a neurosurgeon. I will hopefully be meeting with him in a few days to form a plan of action.

That God completely heals me. He is faithful. That insurance will cover visits, exams, procedures, etc. Wisdom as we pursue the best course of action. That our eyes be fixed on Jesus, who sits on the throne, even as I write this. That he would be glorified through whatever lies ahead for us. That we will trust in him in all things.

These are the verses that were given to me Sunday afternoon in a card delivered to me that was sent from Montana.

“O LORD be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble…The LORD is exalted, for He dwells on high; He will fill Zion with justice and righteousness, and He will be the stability of your times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; The fear of the LORD is Zion’s treasure.” Isaiah 33:2, 5-6

I spent the rest of Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday in bed, progressively getter sicker as each day passed. This morning, although experiencing a brief relief from the vomiting and nausea, was one if the worst I had experienced.

But God.

Right before leaving for my MRI appointment, The Lord gave me yet another brief respite from the symptoms and I was able to walk into the center, receive prayer and lots of hugs and greetings and walk to the van.

The MRI lasted around 45 minutes. During the MRI, I felt horrible.

But God.

Despite the symptoms, having to lay completely still the entire time, and the incredibly loud noises that worsen the symptoms but are necessary for the exam, The Lord met me. I experienced intimate fellowship with Him during that time. I felt the Spirit of The Lord come upon me. He did not leave me, not for one moment.

Afterwards I was sick. The nurse had to call Isabelle to help me get ready and walk out of the room. I was in the bathroom, sick, within five minutes.

But God.

We were told that we’d receive the results by 6 pm. No small miracle in itself. We waited downstairs in the cafeteria. I felt nausea but no headache like I had expected. We ate and I actually had a latte. I was off balance as we walked up to get the results.

I opened the results immediately after getting them.

I’m curious- did anybody read the entire chapter of Isaiah 33 when I first sent those verses?

The last verse says, “And no inhabitant will say, “I am sick”; the people who dwell there will be forgiven their iniquity.”

I understand the context of the chapter but I tell you tonight, with all glory and praise to God, the Ultimate Healer, Giver and Sustainer of life…

I am NOT sick!

We have waited on The Lord and He has been gracious to us! He has been my arm every morning. He is our salvation in times of trouble. Tonight He is exalted! He dwells on high! He is all of those things and so much more! He is so, so good! There is so much more to the story that we will have to share in the near future. But know tonight that we serve a mighty God! He never leaves the throne. He hears our prayers and he answers! Our kids got to see the Bible lived out this week! God has given them the blessing of a miracle for them to be able to testify about for the rest of their lives! They have held my hair as I have vomited time and time again, brought me things as I have been in need, played worship songs to soothe me, tried to make me laugh and encourage me…and tonight they have seen the Lord heal me! I am symptom free! For the first time in 15 days I feel back to my old normal!

Before you go to bed tonight- PRAISE God with us for His healing touch!  Much love to you all! Glory to God!

The Lord gave our oldest daughter, Isabelle, Psalm 29 as she sought Him through the trial of seeing her mom sick. She wrote down her testimony yesterday of how she saw the Lord work and this is part of what she wrote: (when she found out that the tumor was gone)

“I started smiling and praising the Lord. My mom was healed! God let me be part of a miracle! I am so thankful to The Lord for being able to keep my mom! Never doubt the Lord. Miracles are God’s way of telling us, ‘I am right here. I care for you. I will never leave you. I love you.'”
